Honestly, if I could rate them below "1", I'd rate them "-3". Unfortunately, 2 years ago I had a few clients set up with them and it's been a web developers nightmare. I've had setup issues, downtime issues (most recently I have had 3 clients websites go down simultaneously), billing issues, you name it, I had it with them. As a web developer for small businesses, this is what I had to deal
with so far:
Ordering:
Ordering webhosting services and dowmain registration is never smooth. They're always well beyond the time they state it will be up. I don't recall "any" of my clients (approx. 8 clients use them) who have used this service, that I didn't have to "email at least 3 times" to get their service up and running and/or their domain registered and associated with their server.
Uptime:
Unfortunately, my clients' uptime is so bad, I make an effort to check
all their sites weekly to see if they're up. It's almost every other month there's an issue I have to deal with. (Currently, I'm dealing with one site that's down. See below for more info.)
Service/Tech Support:
There is vitually none. It seems the only time I receive service, is when "sales" is involved. I found that I would actually get a quick response, if I email "sales" rather than "support". The Live-Chat is ridiculous, because it's off
90% of the time they state they should be there. They do not respond to emails or even in their trouble-ticket system. If you use support@gnxonline.com, it's 20-80 ratio that you get a
response at all (20 being that they respond back). The only resolution is to open a trouble-ticket, email them utilizing two different GNXOnline email addresses with your trouble-ticket number and cross your fingers for a response. This has brought my response up to 50-50.
Other Notes:
Most recently, they have had hackers attack their servers and pretty much took down 3 clients. The 3rd being today. The worst part of these last attacks, they didn't have back-ups of anything. These clients lost their guestbook entries and newsgroup postings. What a shame. I found that everytime they make a mistake or have these issues, they throw more disk space at you, which is pretty much useless since the opportunity to use it is low. I wouldn't be at all suprised if these were committed by disgruntled customers. "They're THAT bad."
Overall:
Don't even consider GNXOnline for any reason, including price. What you save ($$) with them cannot account for the endless hours of keeping a site up and running.
Recommend:
I have used Verio as my web host for over 4 years. Not once did my service go down. When I needed assistance, I was able to call a 24-hour toll-free number and speak to a live person for assistance. They even assisted me trouble-shooting a CGI script (that's service!). The caveat to that, you pay the premium for it ($17.XX/month). At least I have the peace of mind that my site will always be up and running.
I really hope I've made my case.
